DEFIANCE - Indianapolis 500 champion Sam Hornish Jr. and his wife Crystal are the parents of Addison Faith Hornish, who was born early Monday morning. This is the first child for Hornish, who won the 2006 Indy 500, and is the only three-time champion of the IndyCar Series.

Addison Faith Hornish weighed seven pounds, two ounces at birth and measured 18 inches in length. A spokesperson for Hornish s racing team said yesterday that the wife and newborn daughter of the Defiance native were both doing well.

The birth of his daughter comes at a very busy time for Hornish, who has spent part of the past month in Daytona Beach, Fla., preparing for the Feb. 17 Daytona 500. Hornish, the most accomplished American open-wheel racer of his era, is moving to stock car racing full-time this year, and will compete in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, formerly known as the Nextel Cup.
