Findlay takes D-I semifinal win over Perrysburg

FINDLAY — Findlay charged right out of the gate in a Division I district semifinal and the Trojans galloped to a dominating win over Perrysburg on Thursday.

Findlay (20-2) ended the first quarter with a 10-0 run to grab a 15-6 lead and then held the Yellow Jackets to just four points in the second quarter to seize an insurmountable 26-10 lead at the half. The Trojans ran away with a 51-35 win before a crowd of about 1,700 at Liberty-Benton High School.

Perrysburg (15-8) saw its season end after a dreadful shooting performance. The Yellow Jackets made just 12 of 53 shots from the field (23 percent) and 4 of 24 from 3-point range (16 percent).

Findlay advances to play either Mansfield Senior or Sandusky in the D-I district championship at Anderson Arena on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Findlay's 6-foot-10 junior C.J. Gettys dominated inside with a game-high 15 points and 11 rebounds. Seniors Grant Birchmeier and Brock Ammons each had 11 points for the Trojans.

Perrysburg was paced by Shane Edwards' team-high 11 points.
