Waite's Schimmel recovering

Waite sophomore Fred Schimmel was expected to be moved out of the intensive care unit Monday night after surgery Saturday at the University of Toledo Medical Center, formerly Medical College of Ohio.

Waite principal David Yenrick said Schimmel’s father, Kenneth, said Monday that a full recovery is expected for his son.

The younger Schimmel suffered a traumatic head injury Friday before the City League track meet at Rogers High School when he was struck in the forehead by a shot put thrown during warmups. He underwent surgery on his skull and collar bone.
