St. Ursula claims 1st TRAC title

LIMA, Ohio -- Top-ranked and defending Division I state volleyball champion St. Ursula closed a perfect regular season Saturday by winning three matches to capture the first Three Rivers Athletic Conference tournament at Lima Senior and clinch the conference championship.

The top-seeded Arrows (22-0), who went 7-0 during TRAC regular-season matches, defeated the host Spartans 25-9, 25-8 in the quarterfinals, survived a tough battle with rival and No. 4 seed Notre Dame 27-25, 25-19 in the semifinals, then topped No. 3 seed Findlay 25-15, 25-17 in the tournament final.

Findlay had beaten No. 2 seed Central Catholic 25-20, 22-25, 25-23 in the other semifinal.

Notre Dame placed third in the tournament by beating Central 29-27, 25-20.

Dating back to last season, the Arrows have now won 42 consecutive matches.

Their last loss came against Cincinnati Ursuline Academy.

St. Ursula opens tournament play with a sectional final match against Waite on Thursday night at Perrysburg.

The Arrows had won nine of the last 11 City League titles and won 10 of 11 district championships before joining the new TRAC this season.
