UT signs center from Illinois
11/10/2011Nathan Boothe, a 6-9, 250-pound center from Gurnee, Ill., signed a national letter of intent Wednesday to play basketball at the University of Toledo.
"Nathan is the perfect fit for our program and will give us exactly what we need -- a physical inside presence," UT coach Tod Kowalczyk said. "He has great hands, a very good shooting touch, and he understands how to play. Nathan is also a good student who comes from a great family and possessed all the intangibles we were looking for."
Boothe averaged 9.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game last season for Warren Township which was 31-4 and advanced to Class 4A state final in Illinois.
"The academics and athletics at Toledo are exactly what I was looking for," Boothe said. "I really liked the school, facilities, coaching staff, and the great support from the community."
Michigan signs 2
ANN ARBOR -- Michigan has landed one of the nation's top basketball prospects and the son of a former NBA star.
Mitch McGary and Glenn "Tre" Robinson III signed a national letters of intent Wednesday to be Wolverines.
McGary, a 6-foot-10, 250-pound forward is ranked by recruiting analysts as one of the best players in the country at any position. He averaged 12 points and 10 rebounds last season for Brewster Academy (N.H.).
Robinson is the son of Glenn Robinson, who starred at Purdue and was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1994 NBA draft. The 6-6, 185-pound forward averaged more than 22 points and six rebounds a game last season at Lake Central (Ind.) High School.

Akron 68, Mississippi State 58
STARKVILLE, Miss-- Quincy Diggs scored a career-high 19 points to lead Akron to a 68-58 victory over Mississippi State in the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer.
Akron (1-0) shot 48.4 percent (30 of 62) from the field and confused the Bulldogs on defense all night. The Zips forced 19 turnovers, had six steals and blocked eight shots. MSU (1-1) led early, but Akron finished the first half on an 18-8 run and led 37-29 at the break. MSU never led in the second half.
Dee Bost paced MSU with 13 points, and Renardo Sidney added 12 points and five rebounds.
No. 20 Texas A&M 81, liberty 59
COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Ray Turner scored a career-high 20 points and Texas A&M shot 65 percent.
The Aggies played without first-year coach Billy Kennedy, on leave following his recent diagnosis of an early stage of Parkinson's disease. Texas A&M associate head coach Glynn Cyprien has run the team in Kennedy's absence.
