Red Wings reassign Fournier to Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.– The Detroit Red Wings reassigned defenseman Gleason Fournier to the Grand Rapids Griffins on Thursday from the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye. Additionally, the Griffins recalled defenseman Bryan Rufenach from Toledo.

Fournier, 20, has 17 points (2-15—17) with the Walleye this season. He’s also appeared in three games with Grand Rapids, recording a goal in his AHL debut on Nov. 18 against San Antonio and adding an assist in his third game, Nov. 27 versus Oklahoma City. Fournier is in his first professional season after four seasons with the QMJHL’s Rimouski Oceanic, where he recorded 133 points (31-102—133) in 237 games.

Rufenach, 22, is tied for third among ECHL defensemen with 11 goals and at Toledo with 28 points (11-17—28) in 48 games. The Barrie, Ontario, native also recorded one assist in three contests with Grand Rapids this season. Rufenach is also in his first professional season, notching 55 points (21-34—55) in 136 games with Clarkson University from 2007-11.
