Duby, Panthers reach district final
Anthony Wayne knocked out by Ashland
Maumee's Steve Duby stepped toward first base and removed his baseball cap, tipping it in the direction of the person responsible for shattering what nearly was a remarkable accomplishment.
Duby, a junior, was reduced to a slight grin and a nod after Nate Light's two-out bloop single in the seventh inning ruined his bid for a second no-hitter in eight days. Duby's dancing curve ball coupled with timely hitting from the bottom of the batting order fueled a 6-0 triumph Thursday over Norwalk in a Division I district semifinal at Carter Park. The Panthers advance to the final at 1 p.m. Saturday against Ashland, a 2-0 winner over Anthony Wayne.

Clay, Southview win
Grosjean leads Eagles past Titans
It's safe to say that Clay junior pitching ace Jordan Grosjean has found a second home at Mercy Field.
The Eagles' hard-throwing right-hander is 4-0 at Central Catholic's new field after going eight innings Thursday in a 5-1 Division I district semifinal victory over top-seeded St. John's Jesuit.
Clay broke loose for four runs with two outs in the top of the eighth inning, and Grosjean closed the door in the bottom half to send the Eagles (11-14) to Saturday's 1 p.m. district final against Southview (13-12).
The Cougars advanced by edging Northview 4-3 in the second semifinal.
