Eastern Washington added to UT schedule
7/11/2012The University of Toledo finalized its 2013 football schedule Tuesday with the announcement of a home game Sept. 14 against Eastern Washington, an NCAA Division I school competing in the Football Championship Subdivision.
The Eagles were 6-5 last season. In 2010 they went 13-2 and defeated Delaware 20-19 to claim the FCS national championship.
Rounding out the 2013 nonconference slate is a home game Oct. 19 against Navy, and road trips to Florida on Aug. 31 and Missouri on Sept. 7.
"We are very pleased to add Eastern Washington to our 2013 home football schedule," UT athletic director Mike O'Brien said. "The Eagles have one of the premier programs in the FCS, so we are looking forward to hosting them in the Glass Bowl."
"Eastern Washington is an outstanding FCS program that will provide a definite challenge for our team," UT coach Matt Campbell said. "We have a lot of respect for Coach Beau Baldwin and the job he and his staff have done."
■ UT is hosting a "Celebration of Champions" event July 18 to honor the achievements of the 2011-12 season.
Festivities are scheduled from 6-8 p.m. at Savage Arena's west lobby and balcony. All fans are invited to attend.

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- The Detroit Pistons have signed first-round draft pick Andre Drummond to a multiyear deal.
The team did not disclose terms. Drummond, a 6-foot-10, 270-pounder from Connecticut, averaged 10 points and 7.6 rebounds last season as an 18-year-old freshman.
■ OAKLAND, Calif. -- A person familiar with the decision says the Golden State Warriors have agreed to trade starting small forward Dorell Wright to the Philadelphia 76ers for the rights to a player currently in Europe.
The source said Golden State would receive a player the 76ers have playing in Europe. The move frees up about $4 million in salary cap space for Golden State, which drafted North Carolina small forward Harrison Barnes seventh overall two weeks ago. The Warriors now have about $8 million to spend before going into the luxury tax.
Wright averaged 16.4 points in the 2010-11 season but slipped to 10.3 points last season.

MILWAUKEE -- The Green Bay Packers announced they had a record year financially, driven in large part by their 13-0 start to a season in which they were the defending Super Bowl champion.
The Packers said they had $42.7 million in net income in 2011-12, an increase of 150 percent over the previous year. Total revenue was $302 million, up 6.9 percent, largely driven by enthusiasm over a season that included a 15-1 regular-season record, team president Mark Murphy said.
As the NFL's only publicly owned franchise, the Packers are the only NFL team required to reveal detailed financial data. The latest report didn't include $64 million raised through a six-week stock sale around the Christmas season.
The stock sale was the fifth in the team's history and first since 1997. Murphy said it added some 250,000 shareholders, which he predicted would help the team down the road in terms of being revenue generators.
■ BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. -- A Mississippi grand jury has decided not to indict Brandi Favre, the sister of former NFL quarterback Brett Favre, after it found there was not enough evidence to link her to charges of manufacturing methamphetamine.
The Sun Herald reports that a Hancock County grand jury returned a no true bill on charges against the 35-year-old Favre, of Pass Christian. She was among five people arrested Jan. 12, 2011, during an investigation of alleged meth manufacturing.
■ PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia Eagles backup running back Dion Lewis was arrested in Albany over the weekend and charged with falsely reporting a fire and misdemeanor reckless endangerment.
The incident occurred when Lewis and his older brother were locked out of their hotel room. Lewis was released after his arraignment and his brother was being held in jail without bail.
Lewis was a fifth-round pick of the Eagles in 2011. He was Philadelphia's primary kickoff return specialist last season.
■ PHOENIX -- Former NFL receiver Andre Rison was sentenced in federal district court in Phoenix to five years' probation and more than $300,000 in restitution for not paying child support.
Rison played 13 seasons in the NFL with seven teams.
College basketball
DES MOINES -- It took just two seasons for Fran McCaffery to take the downtrodden Iowa men's basketball program and make it a respectable one.
Iowa athletic director Gary Barta announced that McCaffery has signed a new, seven-year deal with a raise. McCaffery will be paid at least $1.66 million a year with a base salary of $1.3 million starting next season.
McCaffery could make up to $1.86 million per season if the Hawkeyes reach the NCAA tournament, which they haven't done since 2006.
After a rough first season, his resurgent Hawkeyes won 18 games and reached the NIT in 2011-12.
