NWOAL: Bryan wins thriller over Liberty Center

Bryan 14, Liberty Center 7

LIBERTY CENTER — With four seconds left, undefeated Bryan prevailed on a 20-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Austin Schimmoeller to Sean Culler Friday night in a Northwest Ohio Athletic League game.

The win propelled the Golden Bears to 8-0 overall, 6-0 in the NWOAL.

Austin Schimmoeller connected with Brandon Poncsak on a 72-yard score with 4:47 to play in the first quarter. Schimmoeller was 13 for 24 for 197 yards.

The Tigers (6-2, 5-1) outgained Bryan 186 yards to 122, Liberty Center’s score coming on a one-yard dive by Sean Westhoven early in the second half.

Westhoven had 37 carries for 158 yards, but the Tigers passed for only 28 yards.

Evergreen 34, Wauseon 31

WAUSEON —– Jamie Wright caught a nine-yard touchdown pass from Matt Taylor with 21 seconds to play to lead the Vikings.

Evergreen (4-4, 3-3) came back from an early 14-0 deficit thanks in part to Taylor, who accounted for four TDs: two on passes to Wright (the other covered 51 yards), one on an 11-yard run in the fourth quarter and one on a 69-yard kickoff return.

The Vikings’ other score came on an 89-yard run by Mitch Carder, who finished with 128 yards rushing on just nine carries.

Ty Suntken ran for two TDs and threw for a third for Wauseon (3-5, 3-4). Suntken had five-yard TD runs in the first and fourth quarters, while adding a five-yard scoring strike to Noah Castle.

Ridge Schweinhagen had a five-yard TD run for the Indians. Russell McClarren added a 25-yard field goal.

Archbold 51, Patrick Henry 22

HAMLER — Tyson Dietrich ran for three touchdowns and caught another for the Blue Streaks.

Dietrich finished with 80 yards on 22 carries. Evan Wyse ran for 79 yards on 20 carries for Archbold (7-1, 5-1), but he did most of his damage in the air, going 8 for 13 for 171 yards and three scores.

Dietrich’s TD catch covered 25 yards. Tyson Lersch hauled in a 41-yard TD catch, and Levi Wyse found the end zone from 24 yards out to make it 34-14 only 30 seconds before halftime. Clinton Ranzau returned a fumble 23 yards for the final touchdown before Lincoln Parsley booted a 38-yard field goal.

PH’s Zach Nye caught 47 and 18-yard TD passes from Gabe Jones, who completed 12 of 25 passes for 184 yards, two TDs, and one interception. Nye finished with six catches for 114 yards.

Calvin Palmer scored a TD for Patrick Henry (6-2, 5-2).
