DETROIT — Detroit Red Wings owner Mike Ilitch is planning a $650 million multiuse development in downtown Detroit that includes a new home for his hockey team, it was announced Tuesday.
Ilitch said he's proposing a “substantial investment in the development of a new residential, retail, office, and entertainment district in downtown Detroit.”
Ilitch has long said he wants to build a new home for the Red Wings, who now play at Joe Louis Arena, and spokesman Sandra van Meek said the proposed development would include a replacement for Joe Louis, which was built in 1979.
Ohio State's 1995 Heisman Trophy winner Eddie George has accepted a position with OSU that in essence makes him a designated hitter for president E. Gordon Gee in efforts ranging from fund-raising to interaction with athletes.
“It is such an honor and privilege to be able to work for Ohio State, which gave me so much and helped me grow personally and professionally,” George said.
“I am grateful to have the opportunity to apply what I've learned from my academic and football journey while at the university, along with the work I've been doing in the world of business, to support the transformative initiatives happening at my alma mater.”
