Ryder scores both goals for Dallas as Stars spoil Red Wings home opener

DETROIT - Michael Ryder scored two goals as the Dallas Stars defeated the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 tonight at Joe Louis Arena.

Ryder scored at 5:41 of the first period to give the Stars a 1-0 lead, then scored less than six minutes into the third period.

Dallas goalie Kari Lehtonen made 31 saves to spoil Detroit's home opener, while Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard finished with 38 saves. Damien Brunner's goal with 3.4 seconds left in regulation ended Lehtonen's shutout bid.

Detroit hosts Minnesota at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Joe Louis Arena.
