Simpson's 20 saves help Toledo Walleye to 2-0 win over Cincinnati

CINCINNATI – Toledo goalie Kent Simpson recorded his first shutout as a professional as he led the Walleye to a 2-0 blanking of Cincinnati tonight.

Simpson finished with 20 saves to get the shutout and improved to 10-9-3.

The Walleye scored a power play goal late in the first period and it stood up as the game winner against first-place Cincinnati.

Joey Martin scored on the man advantage with 36 seconds left in the opening period on assists from Cody Lampl and Andrej Nestrasil.

Stephon Thorne added an insurance goal at the 13:18 mark of the third period. Pat Knowlton drew the assist.

Toledo (24-17-4) pulled within five points of the North Division leading Cyclones (26-16-5).

Simpson made six saves in the first period, four in the second, and 10 in the final period.

The Walleye return home on Friday night to host the Elmira Jackals at 7:05 p.m. They then host Reading on Saturday.
