University of Toledo men's basketball player Rian Pearson was named Mid-American Conference West Division player of the week, while Bowling Green State University's A'uston Calhoun won that honor for the East Division, the league announced today.
Pearson, a junior Raytown, Mo., averaged 22.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in a pair of wins that vaulted the Rockets into a first-place tie in the West. He finished with 16 points, four rebounds and two steals in a Wednesday win over Miami, then posted 29 points (one short of his career) high and 14 boards in Saturday's win over Eastern Michigan.
Calhoun averaged a double-double for the week, scoring 17.0 points and grabbing 10.0 rebounds in a pair of games. The senior forward from Southfield, Mich., had 15 points, 12 rebounds, a block and a steal in the Falcons' win at Northern Illinois Wednesday, then added 19 points and eight rebounds in a loss Saturday at Ohio.
