Bowling Green hockey beats Northern Michigan 5-3 on home ice

BOWLING GREEN -- The Bowling Green hockey team claimed a 5-3 victory over Northern Michigan in a Central Collegiate Hockey Association game at the BG Ice Arena tonight.

NMU tied the game at 3-3 with a goal by Brian Nugent at 12:41 of the third period, but BG got the game-winner on a short-handed goal by Bobby Shea at 15:40. Brett Mohler added an empty-net goal with one second left.

Bowling Green improved to 13-16-5 overall and 10-13-3-1 in the CCHA and now has 34 points, five more than the Wildcats with just two games to play.

Northern Michigan is 14-16-4 and 8-14-4-1.

BG goalie Tommy Burke finished with 17 saves, while Jared Coreau of NMU had 25 stops.
