COLUMBUS — Johnathan Hankins' wait is over.

The former Ohio State defensive tackle was selected by the New York Giants with the 49th overall pick of the NFL Draft today.

Hankins left OSU a year early after receiving a first-round projection from the NFL's draft advisory council. But the 6-foot-3, 322-pound run-stuffer's stock steadily slipped in the months leading up to the draft.

Last season, after having 67 tackles — including 11 for a loss — and three sacks as a sophomore, he had 55 tackles — four for a loss — and one sack in one fewer game.

He is the first Ohio State player to be selected and the fourth from the Big Ten, behind Wisconsin center Travis Frederick, Purdue defensive lineman Kawann Short, and Michigan State running back Le'Veon Bell.
