Owens falls to 5th place at nationals

SCOTTSBORO, Ala. — The Owens Community College men's golf team shot a 307 in the third round of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) D-II National Tournament and slipped two places to fifth place overall with one round remaining.

The Express have a three-round total of 886 (+22), three shots behind fourth place Black Hawk (Ill.) College and 13 shots behind third place John A. Logan (Ill.).

Luke Berger led Owens on Thursday with a 2-over 74, giving him a three-day total of 219 (+3), which puts him in a tie for 23rd place overall.

Brandon Hoelzer shot a 4-over 76 Thursday. His three round total of 215 (-1) has him in a tie for 13th place.

Other third round scores for the Express included Walter Dorosh (78), Blaze Hogan (79), and Darren Gessner (80). For the tournament, Hogan is at 225 (+9), Gessner is at 229 (+13), and Dorosh is at 232 (+16).
