Longtime Miami University basketball coach Charlie Coles dies at 71

He coached at Central Catholic in 1990s

OXFORD, Ohio — Longtime Miami University basketball coach Charlie Coles has died at 71, the school said today.

No cause of death was reported immediately but Mr. Coles had a history of heart issues.

The two-time Mid-American Conference coach of the year was Miami's all-time leader in victories with 263. He had a career record of 355-308 over 22 seasons at Miami and Central Michigan.

Mr. Coles retired in March 2012.

Mr. Coles served as head basketball coach for Central Catholic for two seasons (1992-93 and 1993-94). He was 32-16 at Central.
