Knights’ Carswell rushes for 402 yards as St. Francis beats Lima Senior 72-61

St. Francis 72, Lima Senior 61

LIMA — Lamar Carswell rushed for 402 yards on 45 carries and scored five touchdowns Friday night as the Knights outscored the Spartans in a Three Rivers Athletic Conference game.

The teams combined for 1,203 yards.

Carswell added a 97-yard kickoff return for a score during a second quarter that featured a combined 55 points — including 42 in the 5 minutes, 43 seconds before halftime.

David Nees, who ran for four TDs, completed 11 for 18 passes for 119 yards and an interception. Andrew Bonfiglio caught eight passes for 81 yards, and Drew Stark booted a 22-yard field goal for the Knights (4-1, 2-0).

The Spartans (3-2, 1-1) outgained St. Francis 619-584, though the Knights ran more plays (85-73) and did not punt. Lima Senior punted once.

Justice Graham completed 23 for 41 passes for 389 yards, four TDs, and two interceptions to lead the Spartans. Ruben Flowers caught eight passes for 172 yards and four TDs, while Marquis Graham added six catches for 154 yards and a touchdown.

The Spartans’ Juniel Liles ran 21 times for 134 yards and three TDs. Demontay Liles had six carries for 105 yards.

Whitmer 34, Clay 28

The Panthers rallied with a game-tying touchdown pass in the final seconds and completed the comeback in overtime with a one-yard scoring run by Jamal Bell.

Trailing 28-20 with 1:12 left, Whitmer (2-3, 1-1) set off on a 13-play, 78-yard TD drive. Quarterback Matt Winzeler threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Christopher Boykin with two seconds left, then tied the game with a pass to Zac Ryan for the two-point conversion.

Bell ran in his second touchdown of the game for the overtime winner.

Winzeler completed 15 of 30 passes for 153 yards and a TD, and added a 13-yard scoring run in the second quarter. Ryan also had an eight-yard TD run.

Quarterback Josh Pennington passed for 133 yards and two touchdowns to lead Clay (2-3, 1-1). Blaze Okey returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown.

Central Catholic 35,Fremont Ross 7

FREMONT — The Irish (5-0, 2-0) led 14-0 at halftime, then put the Little Giants away in the second half.

Tre’Von Wade ran for 78 yards and a score, Paul Moses caught a 30-yard TD pass from DeShone Kizer and ran for a nine-yard score, and Kizer ran for one touchdown while completing 17 of 21 passes for 202 yards. Dayton Copeland-Lee completed the Irish scoring with a 41-yard romp.

Tanner Albert caught a scoring pass from Jarren Hampton for Ross (2-3, 0-2).

St. John's 37, Findlay 31

St. John's led 34-17 at halftime and held on for its first win.

Nolan Silberhorn was 14 of 23 passing for 271 yards and two touchdowns, while Collin Korte rushed 29 times for 192 yards and a three-yard TD run.

Makai Veasley had TD runs of 12 and five yards for St. John’s (1-4, 1-1).

Matt Dominique kicked a 26-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, and the Titans kept Findlay from scoring a late touchdown.

Brandon Muehl of Findlay (2-3, 1-1) was 19 of 43 passing for 248 yards and three touchdowns. Austin Gutting scored on a five-yard run as Findlay was held to 109 yards on the ground.
