Story on Bedford athlete was touching
11/3/2013I just read the article about the passing of the Bedford High School athlete written by Rachel Lenzi. I have been a Blade subscriber for more than 50 years and have never read an article so beautifully written.
I then read her article in the Sports section about the same student. I was equally impressed. The Blade can be proud of Rachel and her abilities. I sure am.

’Washington’ is part of name to change
Changing the name of the Washington Redskins should be to drop the word Washington.
This name is associated with corruption, lying, stealing, and backstabbing. It is no wonder that native Americans are upset with the name!

■ The name of one NFL team, the "Washington Redskins" is extremely offensive. It contains a word that every decent American considers repugnant, and I cringe each time I hear it.
If owner Daniel Snyder has any consideration for our sensibilities he will change his team’s name to ... the "Maryland Redskins."

UT should be on field for national anthem
As a University of Toledo football season ticket holder for a number of years, I attended the UT-Navy game and I totally agree with Amy Garwood who wrote last week that UT showed lack of respect for Navy.
I also have wondered why football teams are not out on the field for the playing of our national anthem. I have attended many Ohio State football games in Columbus and the national anthem is not played until both teams are on the sidelines. Everyone in the stadium sings the anthem.
This is the way it should be to honor our country. I would have thought that that especially when UT was playing a U.S. Military Academy this would have been done. If the UT football team doesn’t want to honor our country by being present on the field for the playing of the anthem, then shame on them.
