UT, BG fall in MAC volleyball tournament

GENEVA, Ohio — No. 2 seed Toledo was upset in five games by No. 7 Eastern Michigan in the MAC Tournament on Friday.

Toledo (19-12) fell to the Eagles 14-25, 25-19, 27-25, 30-28, 15-11.

Lauren Rafdal and Jordan Kielty paced the MAC West champs with 20 and 17 kills, respectively.

Meanwhile, No. 4 Bowling Green lost its quarterfinal match to No. 5 Northern Illinois. In a rematch of last year's MAC championship, the Huskies outlasted BG 15-25, 25-22, 25-14, 25-19.

Lindsey Butterfield led the Falcons (14-15) with 15 kills and 18 digs. Kaitly Skinner had a team-high two service aces and four blocks.

The Falcons will finish the season at Dayton Friday.

INDIANAPOLIS — Schmidt Peterson Motorsports has signed Russian driver Mikhail Aleshin for its second IndyCar entry in 2014.

The 26-year-old Aleshin got his first seat time in an Indy car this week when he tested at Sebring International Raceway. He put together a deal to be teammates next season with Simon Pagenaud.
