Walleye should face more criticism for poor results

12/15/2013

I would like to know when one of The Blade sports writers will call out the Toledo Walleye on the major lack of success that the team has had? This season is turning into the worst yet of what is now an established team with the best building in the league.

With the massive amount of money that has been put into that building you'd think they would be under pressure to have a team that can contend in the playoffs. I know they are doing good in attendance, but they don't appear to be putting in a good-faith effort on the ice, just at selling merchandise and concessions.

If the team is going to be treated as entertainment like WWE then it should not be covered in The Blade.

I really miss good competitive hockey in Toledo.

Like Indian names, Irish can be offensive

Having a gentle grandmother who was Irish to the core, I am simply appalled that Notre Dame persists in having the logo of the Fighting Irish which evokes the image of a troop of unruly, swilling, and unschooled laggards on the football roster.

In like manner and along with the many members of the U.S. Indian nations I also protest such demeaning logos like the Fighting Sioux, the Fighting Illini and the the Red Raiders.

Of course, one must not deliver a complaint with the one hand without having a solution in the other.

So, I propose that we change the Notre Dame nickname to the simply catchy Rollicking Rosarians.

Coaches leaving should stay for bowls

Why is it necessary that when college coaches accept a new job, they must leave before a bowl game that they worked so hard for, then leave the players stranded?

Former Ball State coach Brady Hoke, now coach at the University of Michigan, led the Cardinals to an undefeated season a few years ago, then left before their bowl game which they then lost.

It is so unfair to the players and fans.

I hope Bowling Green has better luck.
