Former Whitmer star LeRoy Alexander will not play college football this year.

Nebraska today announced the sophomore defensive back has been suspended for the 2014 season, though the school declined to cite a reason. A university release said Alexander will continue to practice with the team and remain on scholarship.

Theresa Alexander, the mother of LeRoy, told The Blade, “I stand behind Nebraska 100 percent” and the “situation is good.” She declined further comment. Nebraska also said it would not comment on the suspension.

LeRoy Alexander, who played a central role in the Ohio State High School Athletic Association’s 17-month investigation of Whitmer concerning incoming transfers to the school, was expected to compete for a starting role this fall. Last year, he played in all 13 games and had 34 tackles.
