Fremont Ross Football 2014

8/27/2014

Coach: Craig Yeast, first year

Last season: 5-5, 3-4 TRAC

Returning letter winners: 16

Returning starters: Offense 6, defense 6

Schemes: Spread/3-4

Top players: Seniors Jeffery Barnett, 5-9, 170, WR-DB; Alec Carnicom, 6-3, 275, OT; Garrett Hausman, 6-0, 250, DT; Stephon Johnson, 6-1, 185, DB-WR; Ben Root, 5-10, 200, FB-LB; Patrick Rusher, 5-9, 225, C-PK. Sophomore Russ Yeast, 6-0, 170, WR-DB.

Outlook: Craig Yeast begins his first season at Ross coming in from Tiffin University, and was previously a head coach in Kentucky. While a receiver at the University of Kentucky, he once held the career record for receptions in the Southeastern Conference, and later played in the NFL.

He brings with him a standout receiver son, who played at Tiffin Columbian last year, and has already committed to Kentucky.

Overall, aside from the transition from the offensive and defensive schemes of former coach Derek Kidwell, coach Yeast will rely on good overall team speed in executing a new spread offense. His biggest concern is the team’s lack of size.

“Right now our program is in the process of changing our culture and approach to the way we do things,” coach Yeast said. “Our players and coaches are working hard to create an atmosphere of winning built on discipline, attitude, and hard work. Our goal is to create opportunities to give ourselves a chance to win in the fourth quarter.”
