Toledo beats New Hampshire 54-20

Toledo finished the game strong and beat New Hampshire 54-20 in its season opener at the Glass Bowl.

Phillip Ely turned in an impressive performance in his Toledo debut, throwing for 337 yards and four touchdowns as the Rockets racked up 674 yards of total offense. 

Kareem Hunt led Toledo‘‍s rushing attack, carrying the ball 20 times for 136 yards and two touchdowns.

THIRD QUARTER

After a slow start, the University of Toledo is in control of its season opener through three quarters.

After trailing, 14-3, the Rockets now lead, 37-20. UT has scored touchdowns on five straight drives and is closing in on 500 yards of total offense.

Quarterback Phillip Ely is 23-for-31 for 291 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Kareem Hunt has eclipsed 100 yards and scored twice.

HALFTIME 

The University of Toledo rallied to take its first lead of the game 24 seconds before halftime.

Kareem Hunt scored on a 2-yard run to cap the Rockets' most efficient drive of the day: 10 plays and 96 yards in only 1:52. The Rockets botched the point after touchdown attempt, however, and lead, 16-14 at halftime.

The previous drive, Phillip Ely threw the first touchdown of his Toledo career with a 64-yard strike to Corey Jones.

New Hampshire will receive the ball to begin the second half.

FIRST QUARTER

The University of Toledo trails New Hampshire, 7-3, after one quarter at the Glass Bowl.

New Hampshire quarterback Sean Goldrich threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to R.J. Harris on a screen play to take a 7-0 lead with 9:08 to go in the quarter,

Toledo drove inside the Wildcats' 10-yard line on its next drive, but could not find the end zone. The Rockets settled for a 22-yard field goal by Jeremiah Deter.
