Central Catholic star linebacker Chris Green announced Sunday on Twitter that he verbally committed to play football at the University of Toledo.

Ranked as a three-star recruit by most recruiting services, Green is considered one of the top inside linebacker prospects in the country.

Green tweeted Sunday night that “Today I committed to a college that's wanted me I will be a Rocket for college.” Green also said he picked UT because his goal is “to make Toledo football big in Toledo” and “rep our city with pride.”

Green picked the Rockets over more than 10 other offers, including West Virginia, Penn State, and Indiana.

Because of a controversial ruling, Green is not allowed to play football this season for the Irish.

He turned 19 before the Ohio High School Athletic Association's Aug. 1 cutoff date, and appeals to the state by his legal guardians and the school were denied. Green failed the fourth grade because of a number of hardships, and despite good academic standing and the school's pleas, OHSAA ruled against an exception.
