KFC rolls out the Double Down

4/14/2010

"...as human beings we are capable of making sense of situations based on the thinnest slice of experience."

Malcolm Gladwell, author of Blink and The Tipping Point.

WHAT ARE THEY THINKING: Here at Thin Slices we're all about people being allowed to choose their own poison and we're not keen on pulling a big brother routine. But the fast food industry -- and the people who eat this stuff -- sometimes boggle the mind. To wit: this new "sandwich" from KFC. It's fried chicken used as a "bun" around bacon and some sauce stuff. Oh, and cheese. The country is filled with fat people, obesity is a big health problem, and still the industry churns out things like the Double Down. We're perplexed. RL

RATINGS BONANZA: This probably says more about the state of weekend prime time TV than it does anything else, but this weekend for the first time in history a pair of non-prime time television events scored the top two spots in the Nielsen ratings. Tina Fey and the third round of the Masters (we're guessing most people were tuned into that to see some guy named Tiger Woods) were the top watched shows this weekend. Fey's return to SNL pulled in 9.2 million viewers and once again she did an impressive comedic takedown of Sarah Palin. RL
