Semi slides off bridge; crews close part of northbound I-475

Northbound I-475 north of Salisbury Road-Dussel Drive in Maumee remained closed early today, the result of a two-vehicle injury crash that sent a tractor-trailer off an overpass and onto the roadway below.
Also closed were ramps from Salisbury-Dussel to northbound I-475; ramps from U.S. 24 to northbound I-475, and the ramp in Perrysburg Township from northbound I-75 to I-475.
The crash was reported at 8:40 p.m.
Troopers at the Toledo post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said a semi driven by Demario Burrell, 25, of Detroit was northbound in the right lane of I-475 when a car driven by Daniel Beck, 29, of Toledo entered the highway from the Salisbury-Dussel ramp. Mr. Beck failed to yield to Mr. Burrell and struck the right side of the semi, troopers reported. After the impact, the semi crossed the left lane, went through a concrete construction barrier, and landed on Manley Road.
Mr. Beck was not injured. Mr. Burrell was taken to the University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital, with what troopers called non-life-threatening injuries. His condition was not immediately available.
Troopers did not believe alcohol contributed to the crash and are continuing an investigation.
The Ohio Department of Transportation reported late Thursday that engineers were assessing the damage and that repairs to the construction barrier were expected overnight.
