Toledo Councilman D. Michael Collins, after waging a campaign fueled by union ire over Mayor Mike Bell’s anti-labor positions, streaked to an overwhelming victory in Tuesday’s mayoral election. Mr. Collins won 57 percent of the vote with a very low turnout. READ MORE

TPS tax finds wide favor
Election fortunes fell in the favor of Toledo Public Schools on Tuesday, as the district reversed a string of recent ballot failures by persuading voters to renew its operating levy. Voters approved the 6.5-mill, five-year tax renewal request — Issue 24 on the ballot — by nearly a 2-to-1 margin. The levy costs the owner of a $100,000 home about $150 a year, and provides the district with about $13.8 million annually. READ MORE
Voters give Toledo council new look
The makeup of Toledo City Council shifted dramatically as one incumbent was ousted and the fate of another incumbent hangs in the balance and will not be decided for several days. Two women also prevailed in the race for six at-large seats. There has not been a woman in an at-large council seat since Betty Shultz was forced out of her post by term limits in 2009. READ MORE
