Carl Banks appears in Lucas County Juvenile Court Friday, January 26. 2018.
A former standout basketball player at Waite High School was indicted by a Lucas County grand jury Thursday on three charges stemming from the shooting death of a Toledo man.
Carl Banks, 18, was indicted on charges of aggravated murder, murder, and aggravated robbery, all with gun specifications, in the Nov. 18 slaying of Jerry McNeal, 31, outside a house at 1817 Bigelow St.
Prosecutors allege Mr. Banks and two others planned to rob Mr. McNeal of cash, and when he emerged from the Bigelow Street house — an alleged gambling establishment — he was fatally shot in the course of that robbery.
Mr. Banks, who was 17 at the time of the offense, was certified in Lucas County Juvenile Court to stand trial as an adult along with co-defendants James Moore, 19, and Eric Jones, Jr., 25. Mr. Banks is being held in the Lucas County Juvenile Detention Center.
