Michigan's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate falls slightly to 7.7 percent in latest month

LANSING — Michigan’s unemployment rate fell a tenth of a percentage point to 7.7 percent in February, the state said today. The rate had dropped from 8.3 percent in December to 7.8 percent in January.

The Michigan rate, which is seasonally adjusted, remains above the U.S. rate, which was 6.7 percent in February.

The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget says Michigan’s civilian labor force rose 21,000 to 4.719 million in February, while the number of people working rose 26,000 to 4.356 million.

The state says 363,000 people were unemployed and seeking work in February, down from 367,000 in January.

Michigan’s jobless rate stood at 8.8 percent in February, 2013.
