Marathon Classic gives money back to charities

Ten local children’s charities received contributions of $25,000 or more Friday as the LPGA’s Marathon Classic, presented by Owens Corning and Owens-Illinois, held its annual check presentation luncheon at the Toledo Club.

In all, 23 charities shared in tournament proceeds of $378,000, which brought the total to $8.1 million raised for charity since the event’s inception in 1984.

“We are excited that deserving charities in northwest Ohio received funds that will strengthen the region through the services they provide to children and families in need,” said Richard Hylant, chairman of the Toledo Classic Inc. board of directors.

The Jamie Farr Scholarship Fund was presented a check for $27,000 while nine other charities — Ronald McDonald House of NW Ohio, Bittersweet Farms, Diabetes Youth Services, Hancock County Center for Safe & Healthy Children, Imagination Station, Serenity Farms, Sylvania Area Family Services, Together We Can Make a Difference, and Toledo Hearing and Speech Center — all were awarded $25,000.

Thirteen other charities received contributions from $2,000 to $21,000.
