ANN ARBOR - The Michigan football program is in search of a new offensive coordinator, but that search could be short.

Michigan announced this afternoon that offensive coordinator Al Borges will not be retained for the 2014 season. Borges' dismissal comes after Michigan's offense, particularly its running game, struggled in the second half of a season in which the Wolverines finished 7-6, and 3-5 in the Big Ten.

A Michigan spokesman said this evening that there was no immediate timeline to hire a new offensive coordinator but CBSSports.com and FootballScoop.com reported tonight that Michigan will hire Alabama offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier.

Michigan coach Brady Hoke said prior to UM's bowl game - a 31-14 loss to Kansas State on Dec. 28 in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl - that he expected to retain his assistant coaches.

"Decisions like these are never easy," Michigan coach Brady Hoke said in a statement released today by the athletic department. "I have a great amount of respect for Al as a football coach and, more importantly, as a person. I appreciate everything he has done for Michigan Football for the past three seasons."
