Top QB in Ohio commits to Ohio State

COLUMBUS — The top high school quarterback in Ohio will remain in state.

Joe Burrow, a three-star dual threat from Athens, announced Tuesday he has committed to Ohio State.

One of the most prolific quarterbacks in state history, the 6-foot-4, 190-pound Burrow was named the Ohio Gatorade player of the year as a junior last season after throwing for 3,374 yards and 46 touchdowns and rushing for 585 yards and nine TDs. His 93 career passing touchdowns rank seventh all-time in Ohio.

Burrow, the son of longtime Ohio University defensive coordinator Jimmy Burrow, is the third commitment in the Buckeyes‘ late-arriving Class of 2015. He also held offers from West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Iowa State, and North Carolina State among others.

Burrow could have company at his position. The Buckeyes are expected to continue their pursuit of five-star Florida quarterback Torrance Gibson, a 6-4 dual threat ranked by Scout.com as the 14th overall prospect in the Class of 2015. Gibson lists OSU among his favorite schools but is not expected to make his decision until taking all five of his allotted official visits in the fall.
