A wrong-way two-car crash that injured two people — one seriously — Thursday on southbound I-75 in Rossford remains under investigation, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Sophie Pecuszok, 83, of Walbridge, the suspected wrong-way driver, was taken to ProMedica Bay Park Hospital with serious injuries, troopers said, adding that she was trapped in the car for an “extended period of time.” A hospital spokesman said she had no information about a person by that name.

Kristopher Widdersheim, 28, of Toledo, the other driver, was treated at the scene for minor injuries, the patrol said.

Pecuszok was driving north in the southbound lanes of the expressway at mile marker 198 about 10:10 a.m. when her vehicle crashed head-on with Mr. Widdersheim's car, closing two lanes of traffic for about 40 minutes, according to the patrol.

Mr. Widdersheim was wearing a seat belt, troopers said. It is unknown whether Pecuszok was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.

Alcohol or drug use did not contribute to the crash, the patrol said. It is unknown where Pecuszok entered the interstate.
