Director of state's Jobs and Family Services department resigns; governor names replacement

ASSOCIATED PRESS

COLUMBUS — The director of Ohio’s Department of Job and Family Services has resigned from his cabinet position in Gov. John Kasich’s administration.

The governor’s office said in a written statement today that Michael Colbert is leaving to pursue other opportunities. The statement did not provide additional details on his departure. His resignation was effective today.

In his resignation letter, Colbert told Kasich he was grateful for his 2 ½ years as director and the decision wasn’t easy. The department oversees public assistance, unemployment compensation and other programs.

Kasich has named Cynthia Callender Dungey to take Colbert’s place. Dungey manages daily operations at the state’s Department of Medicaid as its chief of staff. She has a law degree from Ohio Northern University College of Law and a bachelor’s degree from DePauw University.
