Rockets fall 31-24 to Ball St.

MUNCIE, Ind. — Toledo surrendered a late touchdown drive and could not respond with one of its own, falling 31-24 to Ball State.

Ball State scored the go-ahead TD with 3:01 to go on Jahwan Edwards' third rushing touchdown. Quarterback Keith Wenning drove the offense 71 yards on eight plays for his second winning drive against Toledo in as many years.

The Rockets advanced to midfield where their drive ended on an incomplete pass intended for Alonzo Russell.

THIRD QUARTER

Toledo advanced to Ball State's 5-yard line to close the third quarter.

The Rockets, who turned the ball over the last time they advanced this far down the field, trail 17-10.

David Fluellen and Terrance Owens bobbled an exchange resulting in a turnover inside BSU's 10 on Toledo's last possession.

UT's defense has forced five straight stops.

HALFTIME

Toledo's offense closed the first half with four straight three-and-outs.

The Rockets trail Ball State, 17-10.

BSU is outgaining Toledo 275 to 126 yards.

Juhwan Edwards' second running touchdown gave BSU a 17-10 lead early in the second quarter.

Toledo leads the turnover battle 2-0. Chase Murdock recovered a fumble in BSU territory in the second quarter but Toledo failed to capitalize on the scoreboard.

FIRST QUARTER

Toledo and Ball State are knotted at 10-10 after the first quarter.

The Rockets scored all their points on defense and special teams. Junior Sylvestre returned a fumble 23 yards for his second touchdown in as many weeks. Jayrone Elliott sacked BSU quarterback Keith Wenning to induce the loose ball.

Penalties have hurt Toledo. Cheatham Norrils was flagged for pass interference in the end zone on third down on the opening drive of the contest. Juhwan Edwards ran in from two yards the next play.

Bernard Reedy killed a drive with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for taunting a Ball State defender.
