To the editor: Left liked bias for Obama

Former President Barack Obama speaks as he campaigns in support of Ohio gubernatorial candidate Richard Cordray in Cleveland.

After reading several pages of opinion letters decrying the Blade’s recent supposed turn to the right politically, I have a question: Where was the concern for eight years when the Obama administration was given a free pass on everything it did? The economy tanked, unemployment was the highest in recent memory, there were multiple scandals (the Iran cash drop, the Uranium One deal, etc.), and the media STILL acted like Obama could walk on water if he so desired. I see the “tolerant” left is alive and well in Toledo, only tolerant when it read and hear what it wanted to hear, not about good things being done to turn this country back in the right direction. There are plenty of us that are thankful for the “magic wand” that has returned the jobs we were told for years were gone forever.

Won’t support Nike, NFL

How appropriate that letters regarding Matt Markey’s commentary were published on Sept.11, 2018. Two opposing points of view regarding the commentary were published, which in my opinion supports the letter of two weeks ago that the Blade is a nonpartisan newspaper.

On Sept. 9 I sent a note to Mr. Markey with the following remarks:

Your historical list of all the behaviors of Colin Kaepernick and his colleagues was stated without bias and supported with research of their actions that have occurred since January, 2016.

The Kaepernick Nike endorsement disgusts me, and I too join your protest. I won’t be watching NFL or buying any products produced by Nike. I am a small minority, but I know my family, friends, and colleagues support this quiet protest.

Thank you for speaking up for all the Americans who are in total agreement with your commentary.

God bless the USA.

Streetlights dark on Detroit Ave.

For a very long time a section of Detroit Avenue from Phillips Avenue to the I-75 overpass has been dark. It has been dark since before the construction of the Detroit/Berdan/Cherry roundabout and the reconstruction of I-75. New poles have been installed but never powered up. I have sent letters to Toledo Edison to no avail. As this is not a residential area the letters were probably ignored.
