Michigan State kicker Michael Geiger, an Ottawa Hills graduate, was named to the freshman All-America team selected by the Football Writers Association of America.
Geiger finished second on the Spartans in scoring with 81 points. He connected on 15 of 16 field-goal attempts, including his final 13 in a row, with a long of 49 yards against Iowa.
The 5-foot-8, 186-pound Geiger also made 36 of 38 extra points and ranked fourth in the Big Ten in scoring among kickers with 7.4 points per game.
Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston, the Heisman Trophy winner, highlighted the team.
Named to the defense was Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa.
