University of Toledo football coach Jason Candle will not be the new coach at the University of Central Florida.
The Orlando Sentinel reported Monday that Candle was on the short list of candidates for the job replacing Scott Frost who left to coach at Nebraska.
UCF, however, announced the hiring of former Missouri offensive coordinator Josh Heupel as its new coach on Tuesday.
Candle led Toledo to an 11-2 record this season and its first Mid-American Conference championship since 2004. He was named MAC coach of the year.
The Rockets will play Appalachian State in the Dollar General Bowl on Dec. 23 in Mobile, Ala. The Mountaineers beat Toledo 31-28 in last year’s Raycom Media Camellia Bowl.
