Toledo woman convicted in gas-pump blaze

BLADE STAFF

A Toledo woman who police say let an 11-year-old get behind the wheel at a gas station last month was arraigned Friday in Toledo Municipal Court.

Lashawnda Braddy, 29, of 313 Willamont Rd., pleaded no contest to a charge of disorderly conduct, a minor misdemeanor, reduced from child endangering. She was found guilty by Judge Amy Berling, who gave her credit for time served in jail.

Authorities say Ms. Braddy allowed her niece to get behind the wheel July 23 at True North Shell, 4310 W. Central Ave., to inch closer to a gas pump, but the girl lost control of the vehicle and hit the pump, causing a fire. No one was hurt.

Ms. Braddy also pleaded not guilty Friday to an unrelated charge of petty theft for an incident Tuesday at Kohls, Monroe Street. She was being held in the Lucas County jail late Friday in lieu of $15,000 bond in that case.
