Saying the defense had not received all the information it needed to prepare for a trial on Monday, an attorney for Steven King II today asked that his trial be postponed.

King, 23, of 704 Federal St., is charged with obstructing justice in the June 2 disappearance – and now death – of his estranged girlfriend’s 18-month-old daughter, Elaina Steinfurth. Prosecutors contend he lied to police investigating the toddler’s June 2 disappearance.

Elaina’s remains were found by Toledo Police Sept. 5 inside a box in the rafters of a detached garage at the Federal Street home owned by Mr. King’s family where the toddler was last seen. DNA testing confirmed her identity earlier this week.

No one has been charged in the little girl’s death, but both Mr. King and Elaina’s mother, Angela Steinfurth, 25, of 329 Valleywood Dr., are being held in the Lucas County jail on obstructing justice charges.

Today, Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Ruth Ann Franks agreed to postpone Mr. King’s trial until Oct. 7 at the request of defense attorney Pete Rost.
