The second of 12 men accused of participating in a racially charged fight inside the Lucas County jail was sentenced Friday.
James Bacon, 20, of 2623 Fulton St. pleaded no contest Friday to attempt to commit an offense after withdrawing his not-guilty plea to rioting. He was found guilty of the lesser charge by Toledo Municipal Judge Timothy Kuhlman.
Mr. Bacon was ordered to spend 17 days at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio, but all 17 days were suspended as credit for time served.
He and 11 other inmates at the jail were charged with rioting after racial tensions led to a fight in the northeast module of the fourth floor, according to a report from the sheriff’s office.
The fight happened in a cell on Dec. 19 at 7:33 p.m. and again at 7:44 p.m.
Sgt. Joe Gorney, who is handling the investigation, was not available for comment Friday.
Also charged were Kevontae Pritchett, 19, of 1805 Freeman Ave.; Maurice Clark, 20, of 1508 Freeman; Christopher Sargent, 20, of 2224 W. Sylvania Ave.; Mark Ewing, 26, of 3649 Pendleton Rd.; Dojuan Smith, 20, of 1424 Roosevelt Ave.; Jose Costilla, 28, of 1218 Nevada Ave.; Rhaymoun Villolovos, 22, of 3335 Parkwood Ave.; Ronald Smith, 22, of 2221 Auburn Ave.; Eric Kelly, 24, of 885 Hampton Ave.; Stephen Sargent, 25, of 1105 Richland St., Maumee; Alberto Selvera, 25, of 1157 Western Ave., and Brandon Jackson, 25, of 33 W. Streicher St.
Mr. Jackson is the only other suspect whose case has been resolved in court; he pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct by creating conditions that are physically offensive or present risk. He was found guilty Jan. 2 and was sentenced to 20 days at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio. He received credit for time served in the county jail.
