Toledoan found guilty in fatal crash

A Toledo man who drove left of center and crashed into a motorcycle, killing the driver, pleaded no contest today to aggravated vehicular homicide and failure to stop after an accident.

David A. Robinson, 39, of 5285 Dixon Ave., was then found guilty by Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Dean Mandros.

Robinson was southbound on Douglas Road about 11:30 p.m. Aug. 21 when he drove into the northbound lane and struck a motorcycle driven by Jason Alexander, 32, of West Toledo. Mr. Alexander died “almost instaneously” from his injuries, while Robinson got out of the car and fled, Frank Spryszak, an assistant Lucas County prosecutor, told the court.

Mr. Spryszak said Robinson had both alcohol and marijuana in his system at the time of the crash and was driving with a suspended license. Speed also was a factor in the crash, although there were differing opinions of whether one or both of the drivers was speeding.

Robinson faces up to 11 years in prison and a lifetime driver’s license suspension when he is sentenced Feb. 28.
