Toledo man charged in taxi driver’s death

BLADE STAFF

Nine months after a Toledo taxi driver died from injuries he suffered in an assault, a man has been arrested.

Curtis McDuffey, Jr., 31, of 2734 Wayman Palmer Drive is charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Police allege that the suspect assaulted William Moore, 66, on April 28 outside of Chuck's on Monroe, 4477 Monroe St., where the victim was looking for fares.

Mr. Moore died May 5 at Toledo Hospital. The Lucas County Coroner's Office ruled the death a homicide.

The Toledo Police Department posted to its Facebook page a video of the 2:30 a.m. assault. The video shows Mr. Moore opening his van door and two men approaching him. One of the men appears to have a conversation with Mr. Moore and then the two start to fight.

Mr. Moore was hit in the head, police said. The second man appears as if he wants to break up the fight but was shrugged off by the assailant.

Mr. McDuffey was to be arraigned at 9 a.m. today in Toledo Municipal Court.
