A Toledo man who was revived after overdosing on heroin at the Lucas County jail last year was indicted Tuesday on charges that he robbed five businesses at gunpoint.

Robert C. Perez, 39, of the 100 block of Everett Street was indicted by a Lucas County grand jury on five counts of aggravated robbery, each with firearm specifications. Prosecutors allege Perez held up the Sunoco, 1625 Miami St., on Jan. 25, the BP gas station, 95 Main St., on Jan. 27, Family Dollar, 610 East Broadway, on Jan. 31 and Feb. 9, and Barney's, 2010 Ottawa River Rd., Feb. 3.

Jeff Lingo, chief of the criminal division for the Lucas County Prosecutor's Office, said Toledo police were able to put the cases against Perez together “through eyewitnesses and scientific evidence.”

Perez was an inmate at the county jail on Feb. 3, 2016 when he had to be revived by deputies with naloxone after overdosing.

On June 6 of this year, Perez pleaded guilty to trespass in a habitation in Lucas County Common Pleas Court and was sentenced June 27 by Judge Stacy Cook to four years of community control. She ordered Perez to spend the first 180 days at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio but suspended the balance of that sentence Aug. 22 and placed him at the Correctional Treatment Facility for 180 days followed by 90 days in the Lucas County Work Release Program and 90 days on electronic monitoring.
