FirstEnergy, AEP cited for development role

FirstEnergy Corp. and American Electric Power Inc. are among the 10 Top Utilities in Economic Development for 2013, as chosen by Site Selection magazine.

The magazine based its selections on several factors, including corporate project activity in a company's territory, innovative programs and incentives for business, and the utility's job-creating infrastructure and facility investment trends.

According to the magazine, FirstEnergy in Akron helped bring $2.7 billion in projects that will create 7,900 jobs in its six-state territory. Toledo Edison is a FirstEnergy subsidiary.

AEP in Columbus helped bring 16,000 jobs and more than $2.2 billion in investment in its 11-state territory.

It is the tenth time in 12 years FirstEnergy made the list.
