    The Central Catholic Fighting Irish started the season an inauspicious 1-2. They lost to eventual Michigan D-2 state champion Warren De La Salle 21-14 in the opener, then fell 35-28 at Perrysburg in Week 3. The Yellow Jackets (11-1) would be ranked No. 1 in Ohio’s final Division II state poll. Twelve weeks later, however, Central (13-2) won its 12th straight game and finished off a third state championship in 10 seasons with an unforgettable 56-52 victory against second-ranked The Plains Athens (14-1) and their star QB — Joe Burrow, Ohio's Mr. Football — in the Division III final at Ohio Stadium in Columbus. The team helped package food and gifts for needy families as part of the center's Christmas Food and Gift Drive. They also helped deliver the food and gifts to the families of East Toledo.
