SWIMMING IN REVIEW: Relays help Knights take 4th at state meet

St. Francis de Sales plunged into the swimming season under new coach Tony Kurth hoping to make a big splash.

The Knights closed it out as one of the Ohio’s best teams as Jack Barone and Nick Brodie led a fourth-place finish at the state meet.

Barone just missed out on winning a state title, placing second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 55.55 seconds. Brodie touched the wall in the 50 freestyle in third place with a time of 21.0.

The Knights’ 200 medley relay (Christian Sobczak, Barone, Jack DiSalle, Brodie) claimed second place with a time of 1:32.79, while the 400 free relay (DiSalle, Matt Gustafson, Barone, Brodie) finished fourth at 3:07.72.

Findlay’s Dietrich Hinesman earned a fifth-place finish in the 100 free. Bowling Green’s Emmy Sehmann also came through with a fifth place in the 200 free.

St. Ursula’s Zhada Fields was eighth in the 100 backstroke.

In Division II girls, Genoa’s Bailey Dipman earned a fourth-place finish in 1-meter diving.

Port Clinton’s Cheyenne Meek was fourth in the 50 free and fifth in the 100 free, while and Napoleon’s Makenzie Garringer placed seventh in the 100 fly.

In D-II boys, Bowling Green’s Tim Pelltier placed fifth in diving, while teammate Peter Burroughs finished seventh in the 100 breaststroke.
