ELIDA — The Genoa baseball team moved within one game of a trip to the Division III state semifinals with an 8-3 victory over Lima Central Catholic today. Luke Rightnowar overcame a hard-luck first inning to pitch a complete-game five-hitter while freshman pinch-hitter Jarod Brossia delivered the late go-ahead hit. With the game tied at 3 in sixth, Brossia's RBI single set off a five-run inning.
Rightnowar allowed a pair of unearned runs in the first but Genoa rallied to tie the game with two runs in the fourth, then went ahead in the fifth.
The Comets advanced to play Friday against the winner of today's other regional semifinal between Bloom-Carroll and Ontario.
