This week s home is an optical illusion compact on the outside, yet spacious on the inside. Get inside during this weekend s Whisper Woods Tour of 10 new homes, and you ll see what we mean.
From the street, you would never know that the home at 7324 Witherby Ct. in Holland s Whisper Woods development contains more than 2,150 square feet of living space.
But, in fact, this home is very spacious and perhaps even more importantly, none of the space is wasted. Rooms flow easily from one to another, making this an ideal home for entertaining.
The exterior is a combination of brick and vinyl with stone accents, including stone plant ledges. The driveway and walkway are poured concrete, and the porch is covered to keep visitors out of the elements before you answer the door. The door has a sidelight so you can take a peek at who is ringing your doorbell.
As you enter, your eye is immediately drawn to the three-quarter-inch hardwood floors in the foyer, halls and kitchen. It is just a taste of the quality to be found throughout this home.
A dining room to the left has a large window with a rounded transom above. To the right is a room that can be used as an office, but with its lovely palladian window and full closet, it would make a very charming bedroom.
Off the foyer are the stairs to the full basement, which is plumbed for a half bath. This open stairway creates a sort of half-wall between the dining room and great room, but glass inserts here allow light to pass through. Opposite the stairway is a guest closet, conveniently located mere steps from the front door.
A short hall just around the corner from this closet leads to the master suite. The tall tray ceiling with fan in the master bedroom is quite stunning, and lends the room a royal air. A sliding door in this room leads to the patio outside.
The master bath is very spacious, offering a walk-in shower, a double vanity with decorative marble top, a walk-in closet and a linen closet. It is the deep jetted tub, also with a marble surround, that really stands out here, though. While many new homes have jetted tubs, or garden tubs, this is unique in that it sits below glass block casement windows. Close them for privacy. Crank them open to let in a cool spring evening breeze.
Not far from the master suite is the great room. A gas, direct vent fireplace is a focal point in this room. The tile surround and raised hearth really showcase this fireplace, which also boasts a wood mantle. The great room has a vaulted ceiling with fan, as well as long casement windows that admit abundant sunlight and offer a view of the backyard.
Space for informal dining is located just to the left of the great room, as is the kitchen. An arched wall between the great room and the kitchen divides the space very subtly, as does the flooring, which goes from hardwood in the great room to tile in the kitchen. The kitchen features laminate countertops edged in oak, Frigidaire Professional Series stainless steel appliances, and maple cabinetry topped by crown molding. A long peninsula doubles as a snack bar, and lighting under the cabinets and recessed into the ceiling offers a note of drama.
Sliding doors off the informal dining area lead to the stamped concrete patio outside.
A back hallway off the kitchen offers access to the two and a half car garage, a utility room with cabinets and sink, and a double closet. Nearby are two bedrooms and a hall bath with a maple vanity and decorative marble top.
The home at 7324 Witherby Court is new construction from Leffler Builders, and very similar to the home pictured here. Some fixtures and finishes may be different. Standard to each of these, however, is a Carrier furnace with Aprilaire humidifier, and central air.
